Working Hard in the Wrong Places: Why Effort Alone Is Not Enough
There is something deeply heartbreaking about watching someone pour everything they have into something that will never pay off the way they need it to. You've probably seen it — someone working grueling hours, giving it everything they've got, and still coming up empty. People will say, "They work so hard. They deserve better." And they're right — but the real tragedy isn't how hard the person is working. It's that they may be working in the wrong place entirely.
Right Work vs. Wrong Work
There is a difference between hard work and smart work. You can be the most diligent, dedicated, well-meaning person in the room and still spend your entire life striving in the wrong direction. Work ethic matters — but it has to be pointed at the right thing.
This same principle applies directly to salvation.
A lot of people are spending their lives trying to earn their way to heaven. They're being good, doing good things, helping people, and hoping it's enough. And the sad reality is — it isn't. Not because God doesn't see their effort, but because salvation was never designed to be earned. Ephesians 2:8-9 makes it plain: "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."
That is why I named my ministry Operation Good News — because the Good News is this: you don't have to keep working for something that has already been freely given—you just have to accept it!
You Can Be Sure
Here is something I want every person reading this to hear clearly: I am 100% certain that I am going to heaven. Not because I think I'm a good person. Not because of anything I've done. I know because God's Word assures me of it — because I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.
If you are not sure whether God would accept you today, that uncertainty does not have to stay with you one more moment. Romans 10:9 says, "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." And John 3:16 reminds us why: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son."
It is that simple. Confess your sin, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and believe it in your heart. When you do, something supernatural happens in your spirit — a certainty that goes beyond logic or emotion — and you will know, without a shadow of a doubt, that you are right with God.
Pray This Prayer Right Now
If that is you today — if you've been working hard but you're not sure where you stand with God — I want you to pray this with me right now. You're not praying to me. You're praying straight to God, and He will hear you.
"Dear Heavenly Father, I know that I have sinned. I ask that You forgive me of my sins today. I no longer want to live that old life. I want to live a brand new, whole life through Jesus Christ, Your Son, who died on the cross and paid for my sins. Lord, I want to know You today and I want to have a place in heaven that Your Son has prepared for me. Amen."
If you prayed that and meant it, your eternity just changed. God is merciful, He loves you, and He has made a way — and that way is His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the only way, the only truth, and the life. He is the vine and we are the branches. Connected to Him, you can never go wrong.
If you prayed that prayer, let me know! I want to encourage you and provide you some free resources that will help you start off on the right foot!
